ARBOCEL

  HPMC Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose

  New Source for Cellulose Ethers

  • Special thickener product lines for adhesives, waterborn paints and suspension agents for PVC polymerization.
  • Wide Range of Viscosity Types.

pH Stability
The viscosity of ARBOCEL®CE solutions are stable over a wide pH range ( 3-12 ).

Compatibility with other additives
There are a number of substances which, in different degrees of concentration can affect the viscosity of HPMC. These can be divided as follows:

  • organic salts
  • inorganic salts
  • synthetic or natural polymers (hydrocolloids)
  • surfactants
  • antifoamers

At high concentrations, the salts can cause a reduction in viscosity. Very high salt concentrations can cause the flocculation of the products.

ARBOCEL®CE is compatible with a large number of synthetic and natural polymers such as gelatine, casein, polyvinyl alcohol, xanthan, cellulose ethers, starch, modified starch, etc.

HPMC is a water soluble polymer. When hydrated, it develops a characteristic thickening effect, which depends mainly on the polymerization degree of the polymer. HPMC macromolecules in water tend to behave in a non-Newtonian way, in other words, viscosity of a solution changes with the shear rate.

Properties
The cellulose ethers act as thickeners, adhesives, binders, dispersing agents, water retention agents, protective colloids, stabilizers, suspension aids, emulsifiers and film-forming agents. These versatile properties, which are often used in combination, account for the wide range of uses of cellulose ethers.

ARBOCEL CE HPMC Vorteile

Applications
Cellulose ethers are polymers with a wide range of applications in different industries. The ability to develop the characteristic thickening effect in aqueous media makes HPMC a useful substance in applications ranging from waterborne paints, liquid detergents to applications in building and construction such as mortars.

Although there are many specialized applications where HPMC has become the reference for functionality, i.e. in the food industry and pharmaceuticals (controlled release), here we are concerned with industrial applications of ARBOCEL® CE (e.g. tile adhesives, paints and liquid detergents).

Applications

  • Agricultural chemicals
  • Ceramic processing
  • Chemical specialities
  • Textiles
  • Carpet reinforcement compounds
  • Adhesives for leather processes
  • Industrial adhesives
  • Spray adherents
  • Extrusion forming
  • Injection molding
  • Dry pressing
  • Porcelain enamel
  • High temperature covering
